How to make marshmallow fondant and gum paste using Tylose Powder

Today I’m tell you how to make marshmallow fondant.  I know I told you I was MMF oing to tell you how to make the Dora cake but I thought today would be a good day to tell you how to make marshmallow fondant. You will need the following item to make the marshmallow fondant:

16 oz bag Marshmallows
2 lb bag od Powder Sugar
2 Tbl spoons  of cear vanilla
2 Tbl spoons of water
Vegetable oil spray
Shortening
Sifter
A microwave dish big enough for all the marshmallows
A spoon to help mix ingredients in the beginning

You will need to spray the bowl and spoon this will make it easier to clean. Add the marshmallows to bowl,  add the water and vanilla. You don’t have to add clear vanilla if your going to color the fondant or you don’t need a true white fondant. Now you will place the bowl in microwave. Microwave for 1 minute take out stir the marshmallows and place bowl in microwave and then microwave for 30 sec. You will microwave and stir until all marshmallows are melted. The time to melt marshmallows may vary from one microwave to another.

Now that the marshmallows are meted you will add the powder sugar a little at a time in the bowl of marshmallows. Some recipes will tell you to put powder sugar to a greased counter top or table. Why dirty up a a table or counter too when you don’t need to. You will stir with a sppon at first. I use wooden spoon. When the marshmallows and powder sugar start looking like a douh then you will need to cover hands with shortening.  Then add more powder sugar to bowl and kneed the sugar into the marshmallow fondant. You may not use all the powder sugar but you will need until not sticky. You will need t to add shortening to your hands, then rub the fondant with the shortening and wrap fondant in shortening.  When you cover the fondant in shortening,  it will keep  the fondant from sticking to the fondant.  I find that if I kneed the fondant with shortening that it helps keep it from being sticky. If you fondant is hard when you need to use it, you can microwave w few seconds or if not real hard you can keep kneading the fondant with shortening it will become more pliable.  If you have never used fondant, I suggest that you buy a box of fondant and get the feel of the fondant.  This will help you get a better idea of how the fondant is suppose to be.

I remember the first time I ever made fondant.  It wasn’t very good. I didn’t know how the fondant was suppose to be like. I added the entire bag of fondant, but thet recipe I was going by told me to add the entire bag of  powder sugar.  They didn’t say that you have to into consideration what the humidity is each day. You can put more in the marshmallows one day and less the next day. My fondant ended up rock hard. There was no way to make the fondant pliable.  I threw it away and I decided to go buy a box of fondant. Every since I bought that box of fondant, I have made good fondant.  No more rock hard fondant.

I also want to let you know that you can use fondant to make items to decorate your cakes. You can add tylose powder to your fondant to make it hard. This is become hard enough for your Dora, Flowers,  or Mickey mouse. It works really well.  I’ve gotten Tylose powder at a small local business called Sugar Bakers for $6. Ive bought 2 jars since I’ve started selling cakes.

Thank you for taking time to read my blog. I do hope you enjoy reading my blog. I found out today that my Hair Stylist. A different kind of cake: Diaper Cake

Hello everyone

I am going to talk about a different kind of cake (diaper cake) because it’s what I wanted to do for my son and his girlfriend’s baby shower. I’ve never made a diaper cake  in my life. I didn’t want to make just a diaper cake so I made a diaper carriage.

I want to remind you that it’s Tuesday, may 5th. This is when I get the call about my mom and I’m working on the diaper cake when my Aunt Sissy calls.

I used approximately 70 diapers, 3 receiving blanket, rubber bands, safety pins and some ribbon. It’s really not that expensive to make. I spent $15 for 104 diapers, and I think $8.00 for the blankets. I bought all the other items at a discount store.

I used 30 for the base of the diaper carriage. I put rubber bads around 15 of the diapers and then I put 2 – 15 rows of diapers side by side and then I wrapped them in a receiving blanket. I folded the blanket so that the blanket would fold up on the sides so that I can take a big rubber around the side. Once all that was done, I took about 8 diapers laid them flat on a receiving blanket and fold the blanket up. I took these diapers wrapped in the blanket and wrapped it around the front of the carriage base but let it peek over the top edge of the carriage base. This gave it the look of an actual carriage. Now for the cover that you pull over to keep the sun out of the baby’s eyes. I used baby wipes that come in the plastic container. I wrap a rubber band around the wipes and the base of the carriage. I take some diapers and tape the diapers on the wipes and this can be a little tricky because you have to put double sided tape on the front edge of the diapers. You want to let the diapers to hang over the edge of the wipes like I did on the base to give it a lip. You will wrap the 3rd blanket around the back and the front but when you get to front you want to put double stick tape on the front edge so you can push it up under the diapers and put double stick tape on the front of the wipes that way you can push the blanket against the tape and then tuck the blanket under the wipes. Finally, you will pin it under the carriage and wrap ribbon around the carriage.

Now to the wheels, you will need a round cake pan, and 8 diapers for each wheel. I start out using the pan but in the end I wrap the diapers around so that I can make it tight. I take a rubber band and wrap it around the diapers. I took some ribbon and cut it to the size of the each tire. Wrap ribbon around each tire and pinned the ribbon to te tire. I was not sure how to attach the wheels so this is why i pinned the wheels to the base of the carriage.

I could have used yarn, some type of string or ribbon to attach base but the yarn would show on the front wheels unless I used a 4th receiving blanket as if it was covering a baby. Im not sure how it would because it would have to cover the bottom half of the carriage.

This is how I put the carriage together. Itwas my first and it won’t be my last. I enjoyed putting this carriage, making the cake and helping putting together the baby shower.  This helped me get my mind off my mother and my son.

My next blog is aboutt a real cake.  I have made a Dora cake and a Georgia cake. I hope you enjoyed the blog today.  I hope each and everyone has a blessed day. Thank you for taking time out of your day to read my blog.

Tom and Jerry Cake: Tom is cake covered in fondant and Jerry is made with decorating dough (it’s similar to modeling chocolate)

I made this Tom and Jerry cake a couple a weeks ago. I have to say that this is my favorite so far. I’m actually happier with Tom than Jerry. I just feel I could have done way better with Jerry.  I think that I made the mouth and cheeks too big. The young lady that bought the cake was very pleased with the cake and I guess that’s all that matters.  I’m harder on myself than anyone esle.

Tom was easy to make. I bought these cake pans off the TV years ago. It was a set of pans. It has a couple different round pans and this one that you put on top of one of the round pans to make a whole in the middle
for ice cream. I have seen on the Internet where people would cut out the middle of the caake to add candy to the cake. With this pan, I could add candy.  Anyway,  I used one of the round pans to make Tom’s head. After he cooled, I put a crumb coat of buttercream to his head, then covered his head with fondant.  For is mouth and his cheeks I she fondant.  I rolled the fondant and pulled corners to make it look like his check. I rolled a little more of fondant for his lip.

Jerry was a little harder to do because he his so small. I used Decorating Dough.  It’s really easy to use. Decorating dough is smooth and it’s easy to shape it into whatever you want to do with it.  I like it better than the gum past, just because I it’s much smoother than the gum paste.  It doesn’t harden as hard as the gum paste but you can put Tylose powder in it. You ill just use a tiny bit of powder in it.

Like I said earlier I feel Tom and Jerry is by far the best cake I’ve done. I am surprised how it turned out.  Tom was the eaies cake I’ve made.  When I have time I will try to make Jerry again  and hopefully he will turn out better. I hope you have enjoyed my blog. Thank you for taking time to read my blog. I hope you have a blessed day!

Baby in Gift Box (Baby Shower Cake)

I want to begin my blog for not being on for the last few weeks. I do want to explain why I have not blogged these last few weeks. It has been a tough few weeks forme and I do apologize for not being here.

I have to told you about my son and his girlfriend’s baby shower.  We ended up having to have the baby shower on May 9th, 2015. Now with that said, I’m going to tell you about the week of the baby shower. On the morning of May 5th, I get a call from my Aunt Sissy telling me that my mother was unconscious. This went on for about 3 days.  On the evening of May 5th, I get a call from my daughter in law(my son’s girlfriend). She tells my son has caught on himself on fire. Here I am trying to make a cake and a diaper carriage and I find out that my mother’s in a coma and not sure if she will wake up and my son has 1st degree burns to his face, 2nd to one hand and 3rd to his right hand.  I really didn’t know if I was coming or going.

Now im going to tell  about the cake and I will add pictures. I started out with the little decorating dough. Rocking Horse, onesies, and carriages.  I know I said I was going use red but decided to use blue and yellow for the cutouts and bow. I have to say that I was happy with colors I chose at the end. I did use a small tool to cutout the items I listed above. The cutter tool I used also added an imprint on the decorating dough.  I really do like the decorating dough. It’s cheap and you get a lot for the price. I like it better than gum paste. The reason I say this is because when I made my daughter’s baby shower cake. I made a carriage for the top of her cake. I used gum paste. I had to cover with fondant because I couldn’t get it smooth.

For the lid, has been a learning. I haven’t found anything on the Internet on how to make the lid for a gift box. Well at least ine that I’ve made. I have posted this cake on Google and a fellow more experienced cake designer told that she used a cake board covered with fndant. The one before this cake I use rice krispies and it is too heavy for the cake. For this cake I used the decorating dough to cover the cake board and to make the edges od the lid. I covered it with fondant.  The lid was esay but it hard to estimate the problems you will encounter. I will come back to lid later because it is later that I encounter.  It is envolves the lid.

I finally started baking the cake (gift box). I used 2 yellow and to white because one wanted yellow and the other wanted white cake. We all know we have to give the mom what she is craving and I had to give my son what he wanted. I used 1 12×2 inch pan. I only had 1 pan at the time. I baked the 1st cake and I let it cool in the pan. After baking and waiting for the first cake to cool, I thought to myself this is going to take a lone time to do. I ended up baking and letting the 2 of the cakes cool out of the cake pan and the last cake was cooled in the pan. I don’t know if it really makes a difference if you let the cake cool in or out of the pan. I know I encountered this same problem a few years ago when I tried to make a Spongebob cake for my granddaughter. My Aunt Sissy said it should cool in the pan.  I have let my cakes cool in the pan everytime since that day. I know I haven’t had that problem since Spongebob so I do think it makes some kind of difference. The only cakes that was falling apart while icing it were the cakes that cooled out of the pan so after putting a crumb coat on the cake it was leaning to one side and it was leaning more towards the top of the cake. I trim the cake to make it even but I trimmed too much so NOW my lid is too big. It Friday and late. I don’t have time to redo or trim down the lid. I had not used the decorating dough before now and I dont know if I can trim the lid down without it breaking into. I just went with what I had and tried to make it even all the way around.

I told you it had been a hard week. My Mom woke up the the 9th and I did get to speak with her. Ronnie made me cry when I seen him at the baby shower.  Ronnie is much better and I can’t believe how he has healed. His face and one hand is healed and no scars. The other hand looks like he may have scars.

Recipe for Red Velvet Cake

Recipe for Red Velvet Cake. I wanted to share this recipe for the red velvet cake that zakiawBlog shared. It looks really good and I plan to try this cake recipe.

Thereare some peolw out there that don’t want to try a red velvet cake because it has vinegar, but let me tell you that there is very little vineger in the recipe that you can’t taste the the vineger.

I have been looking to see if there were other red velvet recipes and I stumbled on the history of the red velvet cake. I thought it was interesting to read about the red velvet cake. I have provided a couple of links below on the history of Red Velvet Cake. I hope you will also enjoy the history of the red velvet cake and enjoy the recipe that my fellow blogger has provided.

There are different stories on how and where the red velvet cake originatredin New York Waldrof-Astoria Hotel. The story is that a woman dinning in the Waldrof-Astoris Hotel had order a slice of cake for desert. Some say she asked for the recipe before leaving, and the kitchen provided the recipe. After, receiving a bill from the Waldrof-Astoris Hotel for $100 up to $300 (The ammounts vary, according to which story you read) for the recipe. They say she became outrage and decided to get revenge by handing out the recipe via a chain letter.

During the World War ll, food had to be rationed. Baker’s added Beet juice to make there cakes red. Beets were in some of the recipes. Beets retaind moisture which helps make the cake moist. During this great depression, Adams Extract was the first company to make red food coloring and  and flavor. Adams Extract provided a point of sales poster and tear off cards with the red velvet cake recipe to help promote the food color and flavorings.I hope you enjoyed the story about the red vevket cake.

I’m going to be working on my son and his girlfriends baby shower cake this week end. I’m going to prepaid the baby bottom, work on the bow I’m putting on top, and the cut outs I will put on the gift box. I will probably wait to make gum paste tissue paper the day I put cake together which will be the day before the baby shower that way it has time to dry.

I want to thanlk everyone for stopping by and for following me. I hope everyone has a blessed day.

Lamb Easter Cake

Lamb Easter Cake.I thought this cake was too cute and I wanted to share this cake with you that In the Charming Kitchen shared with us.

I know Easter has passed but you don’t have to wait to for  Easter to come back around. I think this would make a great baby shower cake. You may have someone in your life that love lambs. If you have that someone tin your life that is all about lambs then make this a birthday cake for that someone.

In the Charming Kitchen showed us two different ways to decorate this cake. I really do adore the white chocolate curls. It really is a great idea to use the white chocolate shavings. I do like the star tip swirls. Most would have used the star tip and justnput stars all over the lamb. I think if your going to use the buttercream icing/frosting, then I would suggest the swirl.

Wantto take this time to thank In the Charming Kitchen for sharing this decorated cake with us. You really did a great job on this cake. Great Ideas with both the chocolate and the buttercream. Thank you so much for sharing.

Ifyou don’t know how to make buttercream icing/frosting, just look it up on my blog “All about Buttercream and Buttercream Continued”.

Thankyou for visiting my blog and I hope you will check out the cakes I made in my gallery or at https://m.Facebook.com/sugarsensationcakes
