My Little Pony cake — How to make My Little Pony

I want to begin by saying I’m sorry I haven’t been around in a while. I’ve been very busy. My daughter is having a baby. This baby will be my 5th grandchild.  I’m excited to see what it will be. I hope it’s a girrl because it’s what she wants. I’m can’t wait to see what the baby shower cake will be. Anyway,  it’s enough about me and now let’s get started on the “My Little Poney Cake”.

Well, this was the easiest cake of done ever. The client provided the lollipops. I bought the bubble gum. I made rainbows, very small my little pony, balloons,  stars, butterflies and diamonds. I baked cupcakes and bake a 6″,8″ and 10″ round cakes. I also made some fondant.

Creating the Rainbow
When making the rainbow,  I had to have blue, green, yellow,  orange and red fondant.  I added some tylose powder in the fondant.  You will put 1 tsp of Tylose Powder in 1 cup of fondant.  The Tylose Powder will make the fondant hard. I dyed all the fondant. I In started rolling out small pieces of each color of fondant.  I started with the with red fondant Because it was the top piece of the rainbow, then I worked my self down. Now I have the desired size I want to make the rainbow so I can roll out the fondant, measure the pieces I cut out and then cut out all the pieces for the rainbow. I clued it all together. Now that I have the rainbow created,  I need to make the clouds to clue on the ends of the rainbow.  I really wasn’t sure how to do it. I thought about using mini-marshmallows and melting them just a little. I didn’t think it would work good. I decided to use the white fondant wirh the Tylose in it. I took small pieces of fondant with Tylose powder and I would turn and pich all around the small ball of fondant.  I put three clouds on each rainbow.

Creating the butterfly
Now we finally finished the rainbows,  it’s time to get started on some butterflies.  I don’t have a butterfly cookie cutter so I went through my cookie cutter supplies to figure out how to make a butterfly.  I found 2 different size tear drop/leaf cookie cutters so I cut out to small tear drop/leafs and to extra small tear drop/ leafs. I put 1 small and one extra small on one side and 1 extra small to make one wing and the same to make the right wing.  I was happy with butterfly wings so I clued one side together nd the the other side. I then clued the two sets of wings together.  I took and rolled a small piece of fondant to make the body.  It looked good

Creating the Balloons
I created some balloons with fondant. I decided to do 6 sets of 3. I added Tylose to mt red, blue and yellow fondant. I rolled the fondant into a ball, I rolled it to make a tear, I rolled a very small piece of fondant into a ball,  flattened the ball and glued it to te end of my tear drop. Now I have the balloon made and I have to make the string to go on the balloon. I used a polymer clay tool called an “extruder” to make the string. It has different disc that you can use and there are different sizes circle/round shapes. I used the medium size round rope.

I cut diamonds, stars, and I made some apples. I put everything I made on the cupcakes and some on the cake. I put bubble gum on the cake and I put the lollipops on the top. The lollipops are very heavy.  It was cutting into the cake. I will suggest using smaller lollipops.

I did have some troble with the client.  She wanted 50 cupcakes with a 3 tier cake. I made 24 cupcakes with a 3 tier cake. I needed to charge more for what I did. I’m learning how to price my creations. There’s so much that goes into pricing a cake.

I hope you enjoyed reading my blog. May God bless all of you.

How to make Modeling chocolate/clay

Hello everyone,
I’ve been researching how to make modeling chocolate and how you use it. I’ve watched a couple of videos and read a few blogs.  It’s pretty easy to make but when working it you can’t use it like fondant.

This is all you need to make modeling chocolate/clay.  You can use candy melts to make make modeling clay. You can use white chocolate, milk chocolate or dark chocolate to make modeling chocolate.

How to Make Modeling Chocolate

12 ounces of Candy Melts/chocolate/white chocolate
1/4 cup of corn syrup

Put you candy melts or chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Melt the candy melts according to the directions on the package instructions. You also need to know that each microwave is different. It should take around 1 1/2 minutes but you need to do it in 30 seconds at a time until it is smooth.  It can’t have any lumps at all.

Now you need to add a 1/4 cup of corn syrup to the melted chocolate or candy melts. I have read on a couple of blogs to heat the corn syrup and on a couple of blogs that it’s not necessary to heat the corn syrup. If you heat corn syrup,  you will noticed its easier to o pour out. Some also spray the cup to make the syrup easier to pour out. You will have to use a bit more corn syrup than in the chocolate.  Just add a tablespoon at a time but make sure not to over work. I still have more research on the chocolate.  If using chocolate,  you can Google “How to make modeling chocolate. ”

Once you pour the corn syrup into chocolate/candy melts, you will start to fold the syrup in slowly.  You don’t want to under stir and you don’t want to over stir the modeling chocolate/clay. It takes a matter of seconds for the modeling chocolate/clay to come together. Just make sure when it starts getting thick then you know it there. If you over stir the modeling chocolate/clay the oils will separate from chocolate/candy. It will start to crumble.

When it comes together,  you can pour the mixture on to some plastic wrap or parchment paper.  I have read that after a couple hours you can start to use the modeling chocolate/clay, but its better to let it stand over night. It will become very hard over nigt. You still have to worry about over working the modeling chocolate/clay. I noticed that after I broke a piecee of he modeling chocolate/clay off and started working it, the modeling chocolate/clay become very soft. When rolling it into a ball in between my palms,  the chocolate/clay was holding the details of my handprint.  It was also hard to hold when trying to shape it. When holding with my fingers,  it was pushing in on the clay making a hole.  I’ve been working with it and discover that if you break it off then start rolling in a ball. Don’t work it like the fondant. If it becomes very soft then let it sit for a while, then start forming again. I find if I rub it with my fingers helps it to not soften as much

If you want the modeling chocolate/clay to be firmer, then you will use less corn syrup.  I’m still researching how much syrup to use to make the modeling chocolate/clay firmer.  I have found a website that helps you with the measurements. Checkout this website to help with the measurements for making firmer modeling chocolate/clay.
https://www.exploratorium.edu/cooking/convert/measurements.html

I do hope you will try making modeling chocolate/clay. I will continue to work with the modeling chocolate/clay and learn more about how to use it. I will teach you what I learn. Hopefully by the time I learn more about using the modeling chocolate/clay, I’ll be able to give a video.

I hope you enjoyed reading my blog today. I’m definitely enjoy learning about it. May God Bless each and everyone of yoy. Thank you for taking time out of your day to read my blog.

How to Make Flawless Cake: 6 Cake Tips by Erik Blair

Hello everyone, I hooe each of you are doing well. Today I’m going to talk to you about making a flawless cake. There’s some tips I found on Digital Sketching group on Facebook.  Erik Blair shared these tips on Digital Sketching. You cn find his Facebook Pag at https://www.facebook.com/cake.woow2015.

When baking any cake it is better to use room temperature eggs and butter because it will not emulsify properly.  If you forget to lay out the eggs and butter, you can microwave the butter every 5 seconds until softened. To bring the eggs to romm temperature in a short amount of time,  you can add them to warm water.

You can make a cake look as good as it tastes with Real Simple’s cake decorating. Techiques.

Believe it or not, it matters how to measure the flour. If you dip flour out with the measuring curight out of the bag, it will compact the flour.. This will cause you to get out more flour than you need. The best way to get flour out of bag is to spoon it out into a dry measuring cup and use a knife to scrap off the excess flour.

When butter your cake pans, it’s better to use a pastry brush and softened butter. You will swipe the pastry brush over the beutter and the swipe the buttered brush. You will get better coverage this way than with a small piece of butter in the butter paper. I know rubbed the pan with butter paper. I have used the non-stcik spray.

When placing your cake in the oven,  it is best to try to get them as close to the center of the oven as possible. It’s important to not let the pans to touch each other or for the pans not to touch the oven walls. If you have a small oven and the pans won’t fit on ne rack side by side you want to offset the pans slightly to allow air to circulate.

It’s a good idea to rotate the pans after the cake sets about – two thirds of the way through baking time to prevent collapse. By rotating the pans to allow for even baking time.

Now, the best way to cool the cake is upside down.  if the cake is rounded on the top, cooling it t upside down will help flatten it. If it is still rounded you can use serrated knife to cut it t off.

I know that I’ve learned a lot from these tips. They are certainly some great tips for sure. There’s more to baking a cake than just shoving the cake into the oven.

Next time I’m going to tell you how to make a boxed cake taste homemade.  I want to take this time to thank you for taking time out of your day to read my blog. May God bless each and everyone of you.

Call of Duty: Black Opps II: How to Create a Gum Paste Gun, grenade, and bullets.

Hello everyone

I hope everyone is doing well . I’m going to tell you how to make a Call of Duty Black Opps cake. I didn’t know what Call of Duty Black Opps ll was until a friend asked, “What is Call of Duty Black Opps ll? ” I probably should have looked it up before I did so I could learn more about what Call of Duty Black Opps ll.  I have decided to start doing research on every cake I make. It sure will help me make a more accurate cake. I strive for customer satisfaction with a smile and now I will also strive for accuracy.

The first thing I started working on was the gun. I used black gum paste.  I was thinking about buying a mold to do the gun but I didn’t think I would get it on time so I took a box from a cookie mix to make the perfect rectangle I needed for the barrel of the gun. Once I had a perfect rectangle, I cut it in half and clued with edible clue. It gave it the desired look I needed for the barrel of the gun.  I used the same box to make the handle of the gun. I started adding the details to the gun. Using various cake tools and unconventional tools that I have retired to a new cake tool. The retired clean rewards card has a new job as a cake tool. I used the card to make the lines in the gun. I shaped the trigger then clued it to the gun. I was fairly easy to make the gun. Once the gun was finished, I took some sliver dust and dry dusted the gun. Dry dusted means: to take a dry brush and petal dust and the dust the item with the powder.

image

For the grenade, I used the gray fondant.  I shaped the ball of gray fondant into the shape of the grenade. I used the orange knife tool to carve the lines in the grenade. I went over the lines molding stick to give the lines more depth. The tool in the picture below is what I used to make the groves in the grenade. I added the lever and the ring to the grenade.  I waited 24 hours to dry dust with the silver powder to the grenade.

Now I’m to make the bullets.  I used ivory gum paste and gold spray to make the bottom of the bullets.  I used brown gum paste and cinnamon brown for the top of the bullets. I took a very small piece of the ivory and rolled it into a ball and I flattened it. I rolled another ball of ivory and a much bigger(approximately 1/4″) piece of the gum paste and rolled it into a cylinder.  I clued the flattened piece of gum paste to the ivory cylinder.  I took the ink cartridge out of the pen container to make the little circle on the bottom of the bullets.  I took 1/3″ brown ball and I rolled it to form a point at one end and flat on the other so it will sit on top of the ivory cylinder. I clued everything together and let it dry. I put the cinnamon petal dust in a bowl with the vanilla.  then painted the brown end of the bowl. I sprayed the gold into the lid of the spray and painted the bottom of the ivory end of the bullets.  I rolled out black gum paste and used pizza cutter to cut the black coth that holds the bullets together.  I put in on front and back of the bullets.

image

I wasn’t sure that I could make the camouflage fondant.  I watched a couple different videos to see how others made camouflage.  I decided to take some of the ivory and brown fondant I had left over from the wedding cake I made for my sister. I grated the 3 different color greens and a tan corlor on top of the ivory and brown fondant I rolled out. I pressed the grated fondant into the rolled out fondant.  It didn’t look right so I rolled it out again. When I started rolling out the fondant a second time,  it started looking so much better.  I couldn’t believe my eyes.  I added some more of the different greens and the tan. It turned out great.

image

I was happy with the gun, grenade and the bullets.  Everything came out so good even the camouflage fondant.  I was scared boy I was scared.  I know it’s just a cake and I know that the customer will like the cake whether it’s covered in brown or camouflage. I am a perfectionist so it all has to be just right or I’m not happy. The customer was very happy with the cake.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to read my blog.  I hope and pray each and everyone of you have a very blessed day.

Here is the final product.

Monster High Cake: How to make with fondant

I used the decorating dough with tylose powder.  The Tylose makes the decorating dough hard. I drew 2 different size skulls on tracing paper and then I cut them out.  I laid the paper skull on top of the rolled out black and white decorating dough. I then cut out a black skull and a white skull smaller than the black one.

I used gray fondant to make the chain. I used an extruder to make a perfectly round rope. I cut the rope into pieces and I used tylose with water to make edible glue. I took the pieces and glued the ends together to make each link. I made the chain big enough to go around the top tier. I sprayed with silver spray.

I used decorating dough for the stars and hearts.  I needed really small hearts and stars so I used my rolling in to get the size I needed.  I dusted the rolling pin with powder sugar.  I rolled out the dough then pushed down around the edges of the hearts and stars to get the tiny hearts

I baked the cake as I do each time. I crumb coated and put it together. I I decorating the cake.  It was pretty easy cake to do. I have learned not to let Samantha know when I’m having her party and I’ll have it two weeks before or 2 weeks after. I ask that you pray for her and she will realize it’s about the kids not you. I know God won’t let her continue hurting my granddaughter.
As always I appreciate you taking time out of your day to read my blog.  I hope you have a very blessed day.

Easy no-bake cheesecake

I love cheesecake and I’ve never had a no bake cheesecake. I will try this no bake cheesecake. It’s the perfect cheesecake for the summer and we won’t have to heat the house up with the oven being on. Most cheesecake’s will have to cook for about an hour.

The Mummy Track

A dear girlfriend has been having a tough time of things lately, so I decided that a visit needed to be accompanied by a sweet pick me up! This no bake cheesecake is really easy to make and the finished result is creamy and smooth but not too sweet due to the lemon juice. My husband also loves cheesecake and has been begging me (literally) to make this cake for a very long time. So half for my friend and half for the hubby!

Ingredients

Base

  • 250g sweet biscuits (crumbed)
  • 125g unsalted butter

Filling

  • 500g cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 3/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 400ml sweetened condensed milk

Basket and Pail of Sunflowers: How to Wedding Cake

Hey everyone I sure hope all is well. I was going to post about my the cake I started for my granddaughter,  but im s so proud of how the wedding cake I made for my sister. I ask someone that was at the wedding how they like my cake and they didnt say anything about it.  I pointed out the en cake and he said D he thought it was a basket of flowers.

I have to say that tis is my favorite cake. I made the sunflowers out of fondant and Tylose powder.  The Tylose makes the items hard. I took the yellow box of fndant and dipped it in Tylose powder and wokred it into the fndant good. I rolled the fondant out to about 1/4 of an inch thick.

There are 3 different daisy cookie cutter. To make a large flower I cut out 2 sets of petals.  Once all the flowers are cut out, I use the ball tool to make the petals bigger. You will drag ball from top to bottom nd you will do te same with the veining tool. Now all this is finished, you will glue the flowers together.

Now it’s time to make the center of the flower. You will need a flowers nd leaf impression mat. You can dust with cornstarch or powder sugar. You will want t roll out a 3/4 inch n all of brown fondant and press the brown ball into the  large daisy center.  Glue with royal icing or with tylose powder with water added to it. You don’t want the tylose too thick. You will repeat the these steps with the medium and small sunflowers.

Now baking the cake. I had to bake the top to cakes (cake for pail) over. They broke down. I baked all cake on 325 for about 30 to 45 minutes. You have to make sure that you beat the cake for 2 minutes after ingredients is combined.  If you don’tdn it will come apart and you want to make sure it bakes a little longer than usual.  You need a firm cake not a fluffy cake. Fluffy cake won’t hold up.

Like I said above, I had trouble with the cake for the pail. I started to frost the cake and it started breaking down. On the bottom yellow cake, I tried to find something that was about 7 inches to put on the top of the cake so I would have a guide to how much cake to cut off the bottom of the pail so it would look more like a pail. You want the bottom smaller at the bottom of the pail than on the top.

Now we want to make the basket to look lke wood. The easiest way I found nd used was when I took ivory fondant and brown fondant to make wht wood. I took 2 logs of ivory fondant on each side of the brown and I pulled it t untill it was blended just enough to make it look like the wood. I covered the tier with the fondant then I cut out boards. I placed the boards on the cake but only do small amouts of ivo or y for boards because if you don’t it will become mixed together too much.  You will lose the grain of the wood look.

For the pail, you will want light gray for pail, silver spray food color, and may want the silver petal dust with the vanilla in it. I sprayed the silver spray in a bowl, but I suggest using a sea sponge.  I believe if I had a sea sponge it would have looked better. The reason I used the silver petal dust was because for some reason the silver spray I ut n the gray made it looked blue so te petal dust gave it a silver look. I know when I used silver spray on my granddaughter’s cake and it was silver.

Well for the ivy I wrapped wire in foral tape. I cut leaves  and use the leaves impression mat to give the viens look.

Well that’s an over view of the wedding cake I made my sister. Ido on hope we you enjoyed it and I hope you like this wedding cake. I will post the cake I made for my granddaughter.  Thank you for stopping by my blog and I hope you have a blessed day!

How to make a Dora Birthday Cake

I’m going to  finally start to tell you how to make a Dora  Cake. I have all my marshmallow fondant made and colored.  Sometimes when you make the MF (Marshmallow Fondant), you may or may not need to divide the 2 batch. If you need the
2 lb batch of fondant to be one color then it is easiet to add the color to the melted marshmallows.  It will save all the kneeding you have to do making the color you want after the fondant is made.

The first think I need is a  Dora coloring book. It so happened that I had a Dora coloring cook that was my granddaughter’s.  Now I need tracing and a pencil.  I draw or trace the  to parts of Dora and Boots.  For example: I draw doras hair, I draw Dora’s face, I draw her eyes and her mouth. I draw a pattern for Boots as well.  I take the desired color of fondant and add tylose powder to it. I then roll out the desired color for each part of the  puzzle whether it’s Dora or Boots. Once, all the pieces of my puzzle is cut out I then glue all the piece’s of Dora together and all the pieces Boots together.

I have cookie cutters to cut out all sizes of stars, flowers, and letters for the cake. I used decorating dough for the stars, flowers, and letters.  I got all the small and large stars cut out with the cookie cutters. I added a small amount of the glitter dust to a dishand then I add some clear vanilla to the it as welll.  I stir up the contents of the dish until mixed well. I then brushed it on some of the stars on the cake.  Finally, I cut out Happy Birthday and the little girl’s name. I let everything sit out to dry.

Now I start baking cake the cake the day before the Mom is to pick up cake. After getting the cake in the oven, I start to make make the buttercream and just enough to make fondant stick to cake. Some people don’t use buttercream,  they will brush the cake with a small amount of water and the use smoother to smooth out the fondant on the cake.  After the cake is cooled, then i start frosting the cake with buttercream. I put the cake in the fridge over night.

Now I add the fondant to the cake. Once I have covered all the cake and cut off excess fondant with pizza cutter or sharp knife, then I add dowels to each layer that has to hold a layer of cake.  Now, I have all the dowels in for the layers, I will add a small amount of buttercream to each layer that has to hold up another cake. The buttercream helps it stick together.  Now all the cakes are stacked.  I take  dowel and hammer the dowell that has been cut to about 9″ which is the size of all three layers of cake. I hammer the dowel through each layer. I use a hammer because  the hammer will help it get  through the cake board.

Finally we get to start adding the decorations to the cake. I had 3 stars that were on wire. I add floral tape to the ends of the wire just enough so that when I add the stars to the cake the wire isn’t touchig the cake. Anything wire that is touching the cake is not edible.  I’m not sure why but know wire can’t touch the cake or the any thing you use to make the decorations with is not edible.. I glue the decorations can be glued on with a number of edible glues. You can use buttercream,  royal icing or a little Tylose powder with water added to it. I glue qll my decorations on to the cake. Then I add the leters to the star on the middle tier. I was able to have Happy Birthday to  go around the cake because the letters where on the stars so I added  her name on the top od the bottom layer.

Everything with this cake was easy and no trouble at all. I enjoyed this cake and didn’t stress about it. I have a football cake to tell you about next. This football cake is all buttercream icing.

How to make marshmallow fondant and gum paste using Tylose Powder

Today I’m tell you how to make marshmallow fondant.  I know I told you I was MMF oing to tell you how to make the Dora cake but I thought today would be a good day to tell you how to make marshmallow fondant. You will need the following item to make the marshmallow fondant:

16 oz bag Marshmallows
2 lb bag od Powder Sugar
2 Tbl spoons  of cear vanilla
2 Tbl spoons of water
Vegetable oil spray
Shortening
Sifter
A microwave dish big enough for all the marshmallows
A spoon to help mix ingredients in the beginning

You will need to spray the bowl and spoon this will make it easier to clean. Add the marshmallows to bowl,  add the water and vanilla. You don’t have to add clear vanilla if your going to color the fondant or you don’t need a true white fondant. Now you will place the bowl in microwave. Microwave for 1 minute take out stir the marshmallows and place bowl in microwave and then microwave for 30 sec. You will microwave and stir until all marshmallows are melted. The time to melt marshmallows may vary from one microwave to another.

Now that the marshmallows are meted you will add the powder sugar a little at a time in the bowl of marshmallows. Some recipes will tell you to put powder sugar to a greased counter top or table. Why dirty up a a table or counter too when you don’t need to. You will stir with a sppon at first. I use wooden spoon. When the marshmallows and powder sugar start looking like a douh then you will need to cover hands with shortening.  Then add more powder sugar to bowl and kneed the sugar into the marshmallow fondant. You may not use all the powder sugar but you will need until not sticky. You will need t to add shortening to your hands, then rub the fondant with the shortening and wrap fondant in shortening.  When you cover the fondant in shortening,  it will keep  the fondant from sticking to the fondant.  I find that if I kneed the fondant with shortening that it helps keep it from being sticky. If you fondant is hard when you need to use it, you can microwave w few seconds or if not real hard you can keep kneading the fondant with shortening it will become more pliable.  If you have never used fondant, I suggest that you buy a box of fondant and get the feel of the fondant.  This will help you get a better idea of how the fondant is suppose to be.

I remember the first time I ever made fondant.  It wasn’t very good. I didn’t know how the fondant was suppose to be like. I added the entire bag of fondant, but thet recipe I was going by told me to add the entire bag of  powder sugar.  They didn’t say that you have to into consideration what the humidity is each day. You can put more in the marshmallows one day and less the next day. My fondant ended up rock hard. There was no way to make the fondant pliable.  I threw it away and I decided to go buy a box of fondant. Every since I bought that box of fondant, I have made good fondant.  No more rock hard fondant.

I also want to let you know that you can use fondant to make items to decorate your cakes. You can add tylose powder to your fondant to make it hard. This is become hard enough for your Dora, Flowers,  or Mickey mouse. It works really well.  I’ve gotten Tylose powder at a small local business called Sugar Bakers for $6. Ive bought 2 jars since I’ve started selling cakes.

Thank you for taking time to read my blog. I do hope you enjoy reading my blog. I found out today that my Hair Stylist. She was in a deadly accident this past Saturday.  She was not just my Hair Stylist.  She was a dear friend of mine. I would like to ask you to pray for her family especially her 12 year old son that she left behind. He will need all the prayers he can get.  Thanks for all your prayers!
